The Voice of the Oil Kings
He shoots... He scores...
He moves home!
Team 1260 Sports Radio is please to announce that after an extensive search, A.J. Jakubec has been hired as the new play-by-play voice of the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League.
Standard Radio Vice President & General Manager, Marty Forbes, says "This is a tremendous opportunity for A.J. to follow in the footsteps of many talented sportscasters who've done Edmonton Oil King radio broadcasts. Plus, the fact he's an Edmonton kid coming home just makes it a perfect fit for both the Team 1260 and the hockey team."
The 32-year-old Jakubec has spent the past four seasons as the Voice of the Ottawa 67's in the Ontario Hockey league, plus he was involved with the Ottawa Senators broadcasts on the Team 1200.
Jakubec is a graduate of the Radio and Television program at NAIT and began his career as the play-by-play voice of the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL. From there he moved on to Kelowna to work as the colour commentator of the WHL Rockets and also spent two years in his hometown as the play-by-play on-line voice of University of Alberta Golden Bears basketball team, covered AJHL hockey, along with lacrosse and motor sports.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be returning home to be part of the Oil Kings revival in the Western Hockey League," says Jakubec. "We hope to make the broadcasts exciting and I'm really looking forward to working with the guys at the Team 1260."
The first Team 1260 broadcast of Edmonton Oil King hockey - brought to you by United Cycle will be Thursday, September 20th from Rexall Place.
