If Team USA will have to hope for beginners luck in their quest for Gold at the upcoming World Hockey Championship in Halifax and Quebec City.
USA Hockey released a list of 17 players that have been named to the team with the average age of the group being 23.9 years old.
The list is headlined by a pair of Calder Trophy candidates in the Blackhawks' Patrick Kane and the Coyotes' Peter Mueller.
"This is an exciting group of players that has great potential," said assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey Jim Johannson in a statement. "Our National Team Advisory Group has worked hard to put together a team that will put us in position to be successful in the World Championship."
Kane and Mueller will be joined by fellow rookie Oilers defenceman Tom Gilbert as well as nine players who have previously played in the IIHF World Championship. That group includes Coyotes' defencemen Keith Ballard, Oilers' blueliner Matt Greene while the Blues' David Backes and Lee Stempniak, the Kings' Dustin Brown and Patrick O' Sullivan, the Lightning's Jeff Halpern, the Sabres' Drew Stafford will return to the fold up-front while Panthers' goalie Craig Anderson is back between the pipes for the Stars and Stripes.
Rounding out the roster will be the Blackhawks' James Wisniewski and Dustin Byfuglien, Sabres' forwards Jason Pominville and Paul Gaustad and David Booth will all make their World Championship debuts for Team USA.
The team, which will be coached by the Lightning's John Tortorella will play a pre-tournament game against Sweden at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine, on April 27. The US kick of the World Championship on May 2nd against Latvia befor facing Slovenia and Canada in the preliminary round.
