Former Kelowna Rockets coach Jeff Truit joins Oilers AHL team as assistant SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (CP) - Jeff Truit is leaving the Western Hockey League for Springfield. The 42-year-old was hired Wednesday by the Edmonton Oilers to serve as an assistant coach with the Springfield Falcons - their new AHL affiliate. Truitt spent the last seven seasons with the WHL's Kelowna Rockets, the first four as an assistant and the last three as head coach. Kelowna reached three straight Memorial Cups during that stretch. In his three seasons as the Rockets head coach, Truitt compiled a 113-76-27 record. The team won the WHL championship in 2005.
