Congrats Oil Kings! First championship in this city since the 2005 Eskimos. It was nice to watch some decent local playoff hockey, glad the Shaw channel was airing all the games.
The Oil Kings had an impressive 11 game winning streak to start the playoffs, sweeping both the Kootenay Ice and Brandon Wheat Kings. Then they capped it all off with an absolutely dominating game 7 performance against the Portland Winterhawks last night at Rexall Place.
Oilers defensive prospect Martin Gernat tallied 9-46-55 and was +41 in 60gp in the regular season. In the playoffs Gernat tallied 7-6-13 and was +8 in 20gp.
Recently singed Oilers forward prospect Kristians Pelss tallied 28-22-50 and was +34 in 63gp in the regular season. In the playoffs Pelss tallied 5-5-10 and was +5 in 17gp.
To make it even sweeter the Calgary Flames best prospect in Sven Bartschi was a losing Portland Winterhawk. He was a force in the playofffs, but got shut down by Edmonton in the final 3 games of the championship series.
Off to the Memorial Cup!

Congrats to the OilKings. Good to see at least one Edmonton hockey team win something.
