So, I was having this discussion with a buddy at work the other day, who is also an Oiler fan.
Who would you rather trade, if you had to trade for a top 4 defenceman? Hemsky or Gagner?
One of the things that brought this up for me is the fact that the team was winning and playing well before Hemsky returned, and kind of tanked when he did.
I really like Gagner, and in my mind, he's playing well as a winger, who can still be depended on to take the odd faceoff when needed. Hemsky is always hurt, never plays a full season. Gagner is still a creative guy, with a TON of offensive upside.
I would much rather hang on to a guy like Gagner and trade Hemmer, but what does everyone else think?

I don't really want to see either go.
Tired of reading shit on the net (not here of course) of people running Gagner out of town this year. I'd hate to lose the guy just because of a few injuries and recent struggles.
Hemsky's had a ton of injuries, so this year will be the big test for him to see if he can stay healthy. Havlat had some really good years after quite a few injury plagued ones. As much as I like Hemmer, he may be expendable if he spends any significant time on the IR this year.

Well, if there was ever a post that I could pat myself on the back for, its this one.
I said to keep Gagner all along! I knew he would have an eight point night someday soon! Ok, not really. But clearly the guy is doing better than Hemsky. Yes, I think Hemmer is a great play maker and has been a very loyal Oiler. But the fact of the matter is Gags is only 22 and Hemsky is over 30 and just isn't the player he used to be. I do still see flashes of his old self from time to time, but not nearly as much as I see Gagner busting his ass out there every night. Getting in fights to stick up for teammates or trying to get the team fired up. He really proved his worth last night, and I hope it really opened up some eyes of the guys at the top.

I say keep Gagner right now. One he is healthier. Two I think you can get more for Hemmer career wise. plus I have a Hemmers so naturally he would be traded. Thankfully Smyth came back lol. That was a great decision because I almost got a Pronger jersey at the time.

What are the chances of Hemsky being traded at the deadline?

What are the chances of Hemsky being traded at the deadline? Sadly seems to be looking good. He has said he wasnts to stay and his agent has "supposedly" submitted an offer to the Oilers for what their side wants. As shit as he's been this year I'd still hate to see him go. He's been progressively getting better and you can only stockpile so many picks/prospects. Like the Gagner rumours (that I swear CBC and TSN made up). Gagner's 22 who the fuck are you gonna replace him with? Another 18 year old? Some guys have bum years. Tampa bay, for example, had 2 top 5 picks with Lecavalier and St. Louis, then the 2nd pick (Hedman) with Stamkos even in the line up. Shit look at the Ducks this year. Top line of $5-6M guys suckin' balls. I'd still only give Hemmer a 1-2 year contract though. A 1 year to see if anything changes next year and we can go through this again; or a 2 year contract since Hall/Ebs will be RFA next year and you can deal with Hemsky the year after when the Nuge is RFA. Our AHL team has been #1 all season. We don't need any more picks, prospects, or question marks in my opinion. Short term Hemsky could a be good thing. No risk and no need to sell him at a low price. Ok, rambling now...

Good points, cunt.
I can't say that the Oilers should stand pat. There are still some holes to fill.
Defence needs some work until the likes of Kleftbom (or however the fuck you spell his name) come over the sea, and even a young kid like Teubert, we need to fill the holes. Guys like Peckham aren't the answer. Short term, Potter has filled in somewhat. But there were a couple of glaring mistakes that cost the Oilers a couple against the godless Leafs tonight.
Some trades will happen, and it is likely that Hemsky will go.
