The Winnipeg NHL franchise is expected to announce its name and will also likely name a head coach at some point this weekend.
Claude Noel and Mike Haviland are the two finalists for the head coaching position.
It's not yet known that the team name will be. The team will use a generic NHL logo jersey for its draft picks this weekend in Minnesota.
Noel, 55, is already familiar with the city of Winnipeg after coaching the AHL's Manitoba Moose last season. He spent three seasons before that with the Columbus Blue Jackets - first as an assistant coach, and then as head coach for the final 24 games of the 2009-10 season after the club fired Ken Hitchcock.
Haviland, 43, has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks. He won a Stanley Cup with the team in the spring of 2010.
Both coaches had extensive minor league coaching experience at various levels before serving as assistants in the NHL.
