I'd still like the Jokeman to finish out the season in Calgary and then leave. The Rangers can find someone to dump Kotalik on.

Perhaps Calgary is getting Kotalik and Higgins so that they can flip them somewhere else. If the trade does go through they have to many forwards with getting the other 3 from TO.

It's possible, but I honestly can't think of a reason why any team would want to acquire Kotalik and his contract. In addition to that, if the Flames wanted to trade for a bigger fish, they will have traded some of their most marketable players (Phaneuf, Jokinen, and a top prospect in Aulie). Unless the other team is looking for 2nd/3rd line players, I can't see how a possible trading partner could be. We'll find out soon enough, I suppose.

If they arent done dealing then this trade doesnt make a lot of sense. Unless Sutter figures a change of scenery for Kotalik will help he is taking a huge gamble.

I also get the feeling that he isn't done, but it just seems so illogical. Where does he go from here? Crazy.

It's TSN official now. Jokinen and Prust for Higgins and Kotalik. I'm not certain what happened here but two forwards head out and two return. Also remember that Kotalik has a NTC and I don't see him declining to carry it forward.

Yeah, there are a couple of wild rumors floating around down here about this deal. Some are saying they are going to flip Kotalik, Higgins and someone else to Dallas for Richards. Others are speculating something in the works for Kovalchuk. Some of the logic made sense, as it was said that Calgary was NOT on Kotalik's list to be traded to, so why did he ok the deal? Maybe Sutter told him that he wasn't going to be in Calgary for long and that he would flip him. Or maybe Kotalik isn't as big of a baby as Heatly is........

Richards or Kovalchuk? Wow. Someone's really dreaming. Who's left on the team worth trading? Sounds like one of those NHLxx trade proposals.

I've heard those as well. I can't see them being able to put a deal for Kovy together without destroying their franchise.
As for Richards, that could be a bit more plausible, but he has one more year remianing at 7.8 million. I don't see how Calgary does this one either, particularly with Kotalik as part of the deal.
If Calgary can put a package for Richards together, I think Edmonton could beat it and I don't think I would mind seeing that depending on what went back to Dallas. He'd be expensive, but a solid mentor for our young centers and a set-up guy for Penner and Hemsky.

If they were going for Kovy dont you think it would have been better to send them Phaneuf? If Im the GM I dont want a bunch of washed up players. Who knows with Sutter and Wadell.
