If it were me, and ive thrown this out on another board,
Penner Vish a 2nd and maybe a prospect/Nilsson
For Heatley and Smith
The get a top 2 dman and a great puck moving dman. Penner will replace half the goals heatly scored, a 2nd and a prospect. Sure they take a bloated contract in penner, but he still has the potential to be a dominant player. We take back their bloated contract in smith and he isnt getting any better. The cap hits work, and I think it is a solid deal for both teams.

Rumours are saying Hemmer, Gags, and Cogs may be untouchable cause it's too much to give up on. I thought the Heatley thing would be cool at first, but I think Ottawa should be eating some of that huge contract or they're not getting what they think they are.
I've been preaching for a while to go back to building a team of up and comers and $3M players. (there's a no offer for Kotalik article at the Journal) Then when they really deserve the $3-4M (not when Lowe hands it out for nothing) we can afford it. I think it's a joke that we are so close to the cap with such a relatively young team. Even with Smid and Grebs due for raises, something is gonna have to change this year anyway if Gags and Cogs are both staying past this coming season.

I agree Jay. But Penner's ridicolous salary does not help either. That is the big problem with Roli. He wants elite money. He claims he has less ware and tear. This should be an interesting summer.

Roli cant possibly think he is going to be getting more money anywhere else. He was lucky to get the last contract. I would assume roli to sign with some contender team for cheap, but who knows. I would take him for 1 more year at a reduced rate, but that is probably it.
Penner has so much potential, it is just awefull how useless he is most of the time. I assume he will benifit greatly from quinn, but that might just be wishful thinking. I we can dump his salary in a trade for heatley.
Horcoff makes to much but what can you do. I still think he is going to have a solid rebound year and put up close to 70 pts and 25 goals. But that still doesnt justify the money he is making.
I still think we are probably going to get heater, but I dont think it is going to cost us too much.

Heatley put the Sens behind the eight ball just like Pronger did to us. I love how people are defending Pronger but criticizing Heatley (Burke).

Heatley put the Sens behind the eight ball just like Pronger did to us. I love how people are defending Pronger but criticizing Heatley (Burke). Heatley was less than impressed with the amount of ice time he got after Clouston became coach. And, I agree, that Heatley has probably thrown the Sens under the bus instead of going to training camp and working to get 1st line time. In either case, teams have to get rid of someone who doesn't want to be there anymore. What's rushing the process is the $4 million bonus that Heatley is getting on July 1st. The pressure's on the Sens to get rid of him before then, unlike Pronger, who Lowe should've just sat on until he got a decent offer.
