There's a rumour floating around about a trade sending Pronger to LA for Jack Johnson and LA's first round pick (5th overall). Will update or delete if I see anything else.

So far this in the rumours section, but that would be a bad trade by LA. I don't trust Wiki Jay lol. We changed the statue of David one time to a picture of David Duchovny lol.

If this is true then it could be in the works for a bigger trade for Heatley. But he controls where he goes with his No Movement clause. If all The Kings receive is Pronger then they were just hosed.

Why would a team trade not only to a team in their division, but a team that's also practically in the same city? I just don't see it.

www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/06/12/kings_ducks_pronger/SPORTSNET.CA Both Chris Pronger and Los Angeles Kings GM Dean Lombardi are denying reports that the veteran defenceman has been traded. A number of on-line sites are reporting that Pronger, 34, has been traded from the Anaheim Ducks to Lombardi's Kings for third-year defenceman Jack Johnson and the Kings' first-round pick (No. 5) in this year's Entry Draft. When asked via e-mail whether he had engineered a trade, Lombardi replied with a simple "no," and Pronger's response was similar. Pronger had spent the past four years with Anaheim, anchoring a defence with Scott Niedermayer that helped the Ducks win the Stanley Cup in 2007. The 34-year-old played all 82 games this past season, scoring 11 goals and 48 points. He is entering the final year of deal that will pay him $6.25 million, after which he will be an unrestricted free agent. Johnson, 22, was the third overall pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2005 draft before being dealt to the Kings in September 2006. Johnson played 41 games this past season, scoring six goals and adding five assists. He had 46 penalty minutes and was a minus-18. He earned $850,000 this past season and is a restricted free agent. According to the NHL's collective agreement, no trades can be completed until after the conclusion of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Detroit plays host to Pittsburgh Friday night in Game 7 of the Cup final.

This was a rumour started by Andy Strickland, who's a personal friend of Pronger. I have a feeling that we'll find out tomorrow at the earliest if there was a trade.
Personally, I think it's a bad trade for the Kings if it's true. Pronger has one year left on his contract and isn't good enough to do anything for the Kings to radically improve them.
The Kings could get a lot more by trading their pick and Johnson to Ottawa for Heatley. Or wait until the draft and see what other offers there are.

I agree Terry. That is a lot for a good defensemen at the end of his career.

Both sides are denying it, so it must be true.

Didn't feel like creating a new thread, so posting in the oldies. When I first saw the Pronger 7 year $35M extension, I thought wtf, how can they sign this guy to long term big money after he's 35??? They will be stuck with the entire cap hit no matter what. The Flyers seem to think they won't be on the hook but the NHL does. That contract comes into play next season after Pronger is 35. (He'll be 35 when this season starts in Oct. on the last year of his current deal) He may only have a $1M salary when he is 41 years old, but Pronger will still be a $5M cap hit. Seems some GM's around the league need some more education or need to hire a legal document lawyer/cap hit expert. I don't take Oilersnation very seriously (actually rank them just above Eklund) but here's an article from them: www.oilersnation.com/2009/07/and-they-called-mike-gillis-a-fool/And a more official source at least: tsn.ca/blogs/darren_dreger/?id=284062

Jay the Flyers like almost all of Philly's teams are run by idoits. The Phillies are the exception by winning the World Series. Ed Snider has no clue on how to run the Sixers and Flyers. How many times have The Flyers hired and fired both Holmgren and Clarke? The Salary Cap was suppose to keep The Flyers from going wild, I guess we were wrong.

Interesting quote from that Oilersnation blog: So basically they'd have to make a new contract effective immidiately instead of just an extension. I think the Canucks did that with Goontuzzi a few years ago, where his current contract was null and void because of the new contract. And I'm waiting for next summer when Pronger demands a trade cuz Lauren doesn't like Philly.
