Greene gets 5-yr extensionThe Los Angeles Kings have signed defenceman Matt Greene to a five-year contact extension through the 2013-14 season, team president/general manager Dean Lombardi announced Friday. Greene's current contract, paying him US$1.25 million this season, expires at the end of the season. His extension is worth $14.75 million, an average of $2.95 million per season. Greene, 25, is in his first season with the Kings after playing the last three seasons with the Edmonton Oilers. The six-foot-four, 234-pound native of Grand Ledge, Mich., was acquired by the Kings on June 29 with centre Jarret Stoll for defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky. Greene recorded one assist and 53 penalty minutes in 46 games with Edmonton last season.

This is a little much and I'm not sure I would have committed to Greene for 5 years. That said, good for him. If he does keep progressing, this contract could be a pretty good deal for LA in a few years. Guess time will tell, but right now I think it's a little much.
